今回はミズーリ州スプリングフィールドにある、北米で唯一の完全なライドスルー洞窟ツアーを体験する事ができるファンタスティックケバンズについて説明します。❗
I would like you to introduce to Fantastic Kevans, where you can experience the only complete ride-through cave tour in North America in Springfield, Missouri.❗
セントルイスからは約４時間ほどで到着しました。

洞窟に入る前に受付があり、チケットを購入します🎫チケットは大人$28、子供(6～12歳)は$17、それ以下の子供は無料です。
There is a reception before entering the cave and you can buy a ticket 🎫 Tickets are $ 28 for adults, $ 17 for children (6-12 years old) and free for children under.
洞窟の中なので写真ばかりになってしまいますが、ご紹介します。

ツアーではツアー参加者にガイドさんが「どこから来たの？」と聞く場面があり以外にもオーストラリアなどアメリカ以外の国からの参加者が多く驚きました❗
During the tour, there was a scene where the guide asked the tour participants, "Where are you from?", and I was surprised that there were many participants from countries other than the United States, such as Australia❗
無事にツアーが終わり、大満足でした❗

今回はバドワイザーを製造しているアンハイザー・ブッシュの工場を紹介したいと思います🍺🍺。バドワイザーは1876年に生産が開始され、KING OF BEER👑の愛称で呼ばれています(缶やビールにも書かれています)。
工場は先ほどのゲートウェイアーチから車で約10分程度です🚙
I would like to introduce you to the Anheuser-Busch factory that manufactures Budweiser🍺🍺. Anheuser-Busch began producing Budweiser in 1876, which is nicknamed KING OF BEER👑 (also written on cans and beer).It's about 10 minutes by car from the gateway arch 🚙

中に入ると受付がありツアーの申し込みが出来ます。無料で参加できる最もポピュラーなBrewry Tourに申し込みました。
Once inside, there is a reception and you can apply for a tour. I signed up for the most popular Brewry Tour, which is free to join.
ざっくりとした見学ルートとしては馬小屋→ビールの製造工程となります。見学の後には試飲ができます。
A tour route is from the stable to the beer manufacturing process. After the tour, we can taste sample beer.
見学は約1時間程度です。見学の後は隣にあるレストランで食事をしました🍖🍖ボリューミーなハンバーガーで食事もお酒も進みます。
The tour is about 1 hour. After the tour, we ate at the restaurant next door 🍖🍖Eat and drink with a voluminous hamburger🍔🍔🍺🍺
もちろん飲酒運転はいけませんので、私は飲まずに妻が飲んでいます💦💦😅😅
Of course I can't drive under the influence of alcohol, so I didn't drink, my wife drank 💦💦😅😅
私の妻はビールがあまり好きではなかったのですが、この工場見学で飲んだバドワイザーがおいしかったようで、バドワイザーのみ飲むことが出来るようになりました❕❕
My wife didn't like beer very much, but the Budweiser we drank during this factory tour seemed to be delicious, and now my wife can only drink Budweiser.❕❕
名残惜しいですがセントルイスに別れを告げて、次はスプリングフィールドにあるファンタスティックケバンズに向かいます❕❕

In the previous article, I introduced you to St. Louis Zoo.
今回はゲートウェイアーチをご紹介します。
This time, we will mainly introduce Gateway Arch.
このゲートウェイアーチは1961年に工事を開始し、3年半の歳月をかけて建てられたそうです。ゲートウェイアーチはジェファーソン・ナショナル・エクスパンション・メモリアルという国立公園の中にあります。建てられた詳しい経緯についてはここでは割愛します(是非実際に行って確認してください笑)。アーチの高さは192m、最大幅は192mもあります❕
Construction of this Gateway Arch began in 1961, and it took three and a half years to build it. Gateway Arch is located in a national park called Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. I won't explain the details of how it was built here (Please go and check it out lol). The height of the arch is 192m and the maximum width is 192m❕
入場料は大人(16歳以上)が12ドル、子供(16歳未満)が8ドルです。これはゲートウェイアーチに登る料金でミュージアムやシアターなどを含むともう少し割高になります。
Admission is $ 12 for adults (16+) and $ 8 for children (under 16). This is the fee for climbing Gateway Arch, which is a bit more expensive if you include admission to museums and theaters.
それではアーチの上へと行きます❕アーチの下に入口(ビジターセンター)があります。
Let's go to the top of the arch ❕ There is the entrance (visitor center) under the Arch.
登るためにはトラムに乗る必要があるのですが、これが予想以上に狭い❕❕笑 5人乗りでのトラムが8機あって、ぎゅうぎゅうに詰め込まれていきます。トラムのパスはオレンジ色のプラスチックのチケットで、乗る時に渡します。
We need to take a tram to climb, but this is narrower than expected ❕ ❕ lol There are 8 trams with 5 seats, and they are packed tightly. The tram pass is an orange plastic ticket that you give when you board the tram.

展望台につきました。思った以上に広いですが横幅は人二人分程度です。展望台からは市街地やセントルイス・カージナルスの本拠地であるブッシュ・スタジアムが見えます。
I arrived at the observatory. It's wider than I expected, but the width is about two people.From the observatory, you can see the city and Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals.
展望台の滞在時間は約15分程度でした。行きと同じく下りのトラムで下へ戻ります。
下に戻るとNBCの放送車が止まっていました❕❕何かイベントでもやるんでしょうか❓
The time spent at the observatory was about 15 minutes. We returned to the ground by down tram. When I returned to the ground, the NBC broadcast car was stopped ❕ ❕ Will they do any event ❓
この日は天気があまりよくなく、雨予報でしたがラッキーな事に天気が良くきれいな景色をみる事が出来ました❕❕☀
The weather was not so good on this day and it was a rain forecast, but fortunately the weather was good and I was able to see a beautiful view ❕❕☀
アメリカの中西部にはあまり高い建物はないのでとても良いいい体験が出来ました。
There aren't many tall buildings in the Midwest of the United States, so I had a very good experience.

今回はセントルイス動物園のLakeside Crossing / River's Edge / The wild / Discovery cornerエリアについてご紹介します。
This time, I would like to introduce you to the Lakeside Crossing / River's Edge / The wild / Discovery corner area of St. Louis Zoo.
まずはLakeside Crossingエリアです。このエリアで人気なのはアシカで、そのほかにもアカエイエリアがありますがオラフィー🐭たちはアシカエリアのみ行きました。
First is the Lakeside Crossing area. Sea lions are popular in this area, and there are other stingray areas, but the Olaffy🐭 went only to the sea lions area.
日向ぼっこをしていました。アシカだけを見て次はRiver's Edgeエリアへ。
The sea lions were basking in the sun. We only saw sea lions and then headed to the River's Edge area.
オラフィー的にはこのエリアが動物園のアピールポイントだと思います。HPにもこう書かれてあります。
「神話上の水路に沿って4つの大陸を旅し、野生生物、植物がどのように人々と相互作用するかを発見してください。 River's Edgeは、セントルイス動物園で最初の生息環境展示です。緑豊かに植えられた自然主義的な環境で、世界中の複数の種が展示されています。」
We thinks this area is the zoo's appealing point. It is also written on the HP as follows.
"Take a journey along a mythical waterway through four continents to discover how wildlife, plants and people interact. River's Edge is the Saint Louis Zoo's first immersion exhibit—a lushly planted naturalistic environment showcasing multiple species from around the world. "
このエリアではクロサイ、ヤブイヌ、カピバラ、アリクイ、アジアゾウ、カバ、アカカワイノシシ、チーター、ハイエナ、コビトマングース、リカオン、アンデスベア、マレーグマをみる事ができます。
In this area you can see Black Rhino, Bush Dog, Capybara, Anteater, Asian Elephant,Hippo, Red River Hog, Cheetah, Hyena, Dwarf Mongoose, Painted Dog, Andean Bear, Malayan Sun Bear
そして次のエリアであるThe wildへ。
And to the next area, The wild.
みんなが大好きな白くまや🐧ペンギン、プレーリードッグやレッサーパンダがいます。There are white bears, 🐧 penguins, prairie dogs and red pandas that everyone loves.
ペンギンたちは本当に近くでみる事ができてガラス越しですが、かなり近くまで来てくれました。プレーリードッグもばっちりポーズを決めてくれました。
The penguins were through the glass, but I could see them really close and they came very close. The prairie dog also posed as a model.
最後はDiscovery cornerです。
The last is the Discovery corner.
このエリアは昆虫館であるため写真は掲載しません。色々な昆虫がいました。本当に色々な昆虫が笑
This area is an insect museum(Insectarium), so no photos will be posted. There were various insects. Really various insects lol
駆け足でしたが3時間30分ほどで一周でした。季節が冬だったのであまり園内の動物たちは活発ではなかったので、是非もう少し暖かい時に行きたいと思います。
It was a rush, but it took about 3 hours and 30 minutes to go around the park. Since the season was winter, the animals in the park were not very active, so I would definitely like to go when it is a little warmer.

今回はセントルイス動物園のHistoric Hill & Red Rocksエリアについてご紹介します。
This time, I would like to introduce you to the Historic Hill & Red Rocks area of St. Louis Zoo.
Historic Hillでは鳥、爬虫類や両生類、霊長類等をみる事ができます。
At Historic Hill you can see birds, reptiles, amphibians(Herpetarium) and primates.
最初はBird House & Gardenに行きました。Bird House & Gardenでは特に鷲やコンドルなど大きな鳥をみる事が出来ました。また、Bird House & Gardenでは熱帯雨林から砂漠まで、さまざまな鳥達がおり、 囲いも垂直の細いステンレス鋼線でできており、とてもよくみる事が出来ます。
At first we went to Bird House & Garden. At Bird House & Garden, I could see big birds such as eagles and condors. Bird House & Garden also offers a wide range of birds, from rainforests to deserts.There are also the enclosure is made of thin vertical stainless steel wire, which you can see very well.
次はHerpetariumエリアです。
Next is the Herpetarium area.
このエリアは赤い瓦屋根の地中海スタイルの漆喰の建物、チャールズH.ヘッスルヘルペタリウムの中にあります。この建物では温帯、熱帯、砂漠は爬虫類と両生類をみる事ができ、建物の中を歩くと、樹木、ブドウの木、岩、各種の水などの自然の気候設定がされています。ワニやゾウガメの屋内/屋外の庭には、滝、プール、木々、芝生の庭がありました。写真は爬虫類や両生類が苦手な人がいるかもしれないので、掲載していません😅😅。
Four climates await you inside the Mediterranean-style stucco building with a red tile roof, the Charles H. Hoessle Herpetarium. Montane, temperate, tropical and desert are represented habitats for reptiles and amphibians. As you make your way around inside the building, you 'll notice natural climate settings including trees, vines, rocks and water for each species. Indoor / outdoor yards for crocodilians and giant tortoises feature waterfalls, pools, trees and grassy yards. The photo is not posted because some people may not be good at reptiles and amphibians😅😅.
Historic Hillエリアの最後はPrimate Houseです。ここでは霊長類をみる事が出来ます。
At the end of the Historic Hill area is Primate House. You can see primates here.
かなり早く歩いて、ここまで40分❕広い❕
Walk fairly fast, 40 minutes from the entrance to here ❕ What a large place ❕
お次はRed Rocksエリアです。
Next is the Red Rocks area.
Red Rocksエリアでは猫(虎、ライオン笑)やターキン、ソマリノロバ、アンテロープ、ラクダ、シマウマ、キリン、オカピ、ダチョウ、カンガルーなどの動物をみる事が出来ます。
In the Red Rocks area you can see animals such as cats (Tigers, lions lol), takins, somarino Wild Ass, antelopes, camels, zebras, giraffes, okapis, ostriches and kangaroos.
まずはBig Cat Country❕❕トラってネコ科なんですよね（笑）
First of all, Big Cat Country ❕ ❕ Tiger is a cat family lol
みんなのびのびと過ごしていますが、3月でとても寒いのでみんな寝ていました（笑）
Everyone spent their time leisurely, but it was so cold in March that everyone slept lol.
そのまま道沿いに進みます。ターキン、ソマリノロバ、アンテロープがいました。
We went straight along the road. We can see Takin, Somali Wild Ass, Antelope.
Red Rocksエリアの最後にはみんなお待ちかね、ラクダ、シマウマ、キリン、オカピ、ダチョウ、カンガルーがお出迎えです。
At the end of the Red Rocks area are the animals that everyone was waiting to see: camels, zebras, giraffes, okapis, ostriches and kangaroos.
ここまででようやく園内の三分の一❕❕ゆっくり回っていたら一日潰せてしまいそうです☀今回はここまで。
At this point, I've finally reached one-third of the park ❕ ❕ If I walk slowly, I'll be able to spend the whole day ☀ This time it's up to here.

2月は少し仕事が立て込んでいて、中盤以降ブログを更新する事が出来ませんでした😥😥ようやく落ち着いてきたので更新をします❕❕
February was hectic for me, it was difficult to update my blog... Things have finally settled down at work, I will update it.
今回の記事ではミズーリ州の旅行体験記をご紹介したいと思います。
I would like to introduce my travel experience to Missouri in this article.
旅行した時期は2018年3月末で、ミズーリ州にした目的はちょうど3連休が取れて車で行けるところをピックアップしてその中から決定しました。又、赴任して1年経過していませんでしたので、無理のない走行距離にするという点も考慮しました。
We went to Missouri the end of March, 2018. Because we got paid holiday on friday, we decided on candidates for a place where we can make a round-trip by car in 3 days. Also, since I had not been in a year since I arrived in the US, I tried to avoid long distance driving.
今回の旅行の目的は大きく分けて3つありました😜😜
I have three main perpose for this travel😜😜
1. ゲートウェイアーチに登る
Go up to the Gateway Arch.
2. バドワイザーを製造しているアンハイザー・ブッシュの工場を見学する
Join the plant tour of Anheuser-Busch.
3. Route 66を走る
Drive the Route 66.
まず皆さんセントルイスってどこって思いますよね❓場所はシカゴから南下した内陸部にあります。

治安
西郊と南郊の高級住宅地を除いて犯罪発生率は高く、モーガン・クイットノー社 (Morgan Quitno) [1]の調査ではデトロイトと並んで「全米の危険な都市」ランキングのワースト3常連であり、2002年・2006年の調査ではワースト1であった。特に市北部ではスラムを形成している。また、ミシシッピ川を挟み、東部はイリノイ州イーストセントルイス市となっているが、ここは産業空白地帯ゆえに都市空洞化が極端に進み荒廃し、さらに危険である（下記注）。イーストセントルイス市においては人口の97%がアフリカ系であり、全米で最もアフリカ系アメリカ人人口比率の高い都市のひとつとなっている[5]。

St. Louis (/seɪnt ˈluːɪs/)[10][11][12] is an independent city[13] and major inland port in the U.S. state of Missouri. The city of St. Louis has, as of April 2017, the highest murder rate, per capita, in the United States,[104] with 188 homicides in 2015 (59.3 homicides per 100,000)[105][106] and ranks No. 13 of the most dangerous cities in the world by homicide rate. Detroit, Flint, Memphis, Oakland, and some smaller cities with fewer than 100,000 population (ex. 今回諸事情によりシカゴに行くことになったのですが、いくらホテル代が日本に比べて安いアメリカでも1泊$100を超える事がごくごく普通です😥😥そこで費用を安く抑える為に、通常宿泊する人のヒルトングループのホテルでなく、モーテルに宿泊する事にしました。
宿泊するモーテルを決める
なによりもまず、宿泊するモーテルをどこにするかが重要です。オラフィーは宿泊するホテルの予算は$60と決めていましたので、まずは価格を条件にして検索をしました。 そして以下のモーテルに絞りました。
1. Motel6
2. Red Roof Inn
3. Super 8 Motels
一般的にこの3つがチェーンモーテルとしては有名であると思います。次は予約サイトの評判と口コミを参考にします。参考とする上でまずはオラフィーが重要としたのが
1. 口コミの数が多いか？
2. 星が5段階評価中3.5以上か？
この2つです。モーテルの宿泊経験が少ない為、一概には言い切れませんがこの2つを満たしていないモーテルにはきっと何か理由があります。なぜなら、オラフィーの主観ですが「日本人より多少汚れにうるさくなく、土足文化のアメリカ人が低評価をつける場合はきっと何かあるに違いない」と考えるのが無難です（笑）
さらに宿泊する場所も重要です。今回は比較的治安がよいArlington Heights付近にしました。
この条件で調べて最終的に決めたのが「Motel 6」です。値段は$53❕❕近くに日本食スーパーマーケットのMitsuwa Market Placeもあります。
結果・感想
結果から言うと100点満点中80点でした❕❕
・部屋の清潔さ 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
・バスルームの清潔さ 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
・お値段 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
・？？？ 🌟🌟🌟
「???」ってなんだと思う方もいるかもしれませんが、後程ご説明します。ちなみにこれがクリアできていれば文句なしでした。
まずは外観
決して怪しげな雰囲気ではありません。
続いて室内。
とても綺麗です。公式サイトの写真と相違ありませんでした。又、アメリカのホテルにしては珍しく(？)、フローリングタイプでした。おそらく掃除をしやすくる為なのかなあと思いました。ではなぜ100点ではないかというと・・・ベッドの厚みです😒😒😒これが「？？？」の項目です。なんて贅沢なんだ！と思うかもしれませんが今オラフィーの住んでいるベッドの厚みの1/3くらいしかないのです（笑）日本にいるときは全く気にしませんでしたが、こちらに来てからはフカフカのベッド以外考えられません❕❕
ともあれ、犯罪者の巣窟になっていたり、薬物の取引になんて使われている事なんて全くなく、快適に過ごす事が出来ました😜😜
インターネットでモーテルに宿泊したという体験談が全然なかったので、今回記事にしてみました❕❕今後、モーテルでの宿泊を検討されている方の参考になれば幸いです😊😊

We need to go to Chicago for some reasons, so we need to stay the hotel. The accomondation fee in the US is much lower than Japanese hotel, but it's price is over $100😥😥 Therefore, we decided to stay amotel instead of Hilton hotel which we usually stay.
Decide which hotel we stay
First of all, it is important to choose where to stay the motel. We decided the budget for the hotel's accommodation to be $ 60, so we searched for a motel based on the price. Then I made the following motels as candidates.

まず、そもそもなぜニューポート水族館を紹介したかの背景について説明をしたいと思います。まず、我々が住むインディアナ州は冬になると大変寒くなります☃☃その為、冬になると外でのアクティビティができなくなり、外出しても基本的には屋内で過ごす事が多くなります。確かに、ショッピングモールに行けば買い物も出来ますし、時間も潰せますがお金も必要となり、やっぱり飽きが来ます😥😥

以前アメリカで一番よく見かける動物はリスであるという記事をオラフィーは書きました✎
ですが、リスに負けず劣らず本当によく見かける動物はウサギです🐰🐰
オラフィーの家の周りにもたくさんのウサギ🐰がいます。
神奈川県に住んでいたオラフィーの家の近くでは狸はいても、野ウサギはほとんど見かけませんでした😲😲その為、こちらに赴任して野ウサギを見つけた時はピーターラビットだ❕と嬉しくなったものです。
しかしながら、リスと同様に、日本人から見る目と米人から見る目は全く違います。そうです、彼らは「害獣」という扱いなのです😥😥
ウサギに対してはこんな印象だそうです。
「They’re cute and fluffy animals for sure, but the damage they can do — just one rabbit can do — is incredible. And, usually rather expensive to repair. 」
確かに可愛くてとってもフワフワなのだが、たくさんの被害をもたらす。たった1匹のウサギですら。そしてその修復は高価である。

理由は妻がどうしてもディズニーランドに行きたいと言ったのでカリフォルニア、特にロスアンゼルス周辺に決めました❗サンフランシスコは日程の制約上割愛。
The reason was that my wife definitely wanted to go to Disneyland so I decided in California, especially around Los Angeles❗ Because of the schedule constraint, we could not go to San Francisco.

From Indianapolis International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport✈
まずは空港からサンタモニカビーチへ出発！インディアナは海に面していない為、アメリカに来て初めての海です🌊🌊サンタモニカはルート66の終着点でもあります。
Leave from the airport to Santa Monica Beach! Because Indiana does not face the ocean, it is the first time to come to the ocean except for Hawaii. Santa Monica is also the end of Route 66.
フォレストガンプで有名なBubba Gump Shrimp❕ 記念碑もあります。

ある程度満喫したので1日目終了二日目と三日目はディズニーランドに行きました。写真は省きます。4日目はハリウッドとグリフィス天文台です。
We went back to the hotel because we fully enjoyed first day. On the second day and the third day we went to Disneyland. I skip to show photos. On the fourth day, we went to Hollywood and Griffith Observatory.

ちなみにディズニーキャラクターのもあったります。

4日目の最後、グリフィス天文台へ❕ ここはラ・ラ・ランドのロケ地の一つでもあります。

そうそう！寒いのは危険だよね！って単にそういう意味ではないんです。オラフィーが住んでいるインディアナ州では日常的に20°F(０℃)を下回る日があり、我々日本人にとって"Dangerous"であっても米人にとっては普通なんて事はよくあります。そんなアメリカで"Dangerous Cold"になるのは非常に珍しいんです。天気予報では0°F(-18℃)まで冷え込むとあり、その結果
1. 学校は大学も含めてお休み。
2. 外出はせずに、できるだけ家で過ごす事。
3. USPS(米郵便公社)がイリノイやアイオワなど６州の全域と、カンザス州など４州の一部で郵便の配達を中止すると発表。
こんな事態が起きています😲😲😲
さらには ミネソタ州北部では体感温度が約-65°Fになり、1982年に記録した-71°Fに並ぶ可能性もあるそう。ミネアポリスやセントポールでは肌ををわずか５分露出しただけでも凍傷の恐れがあるとの情報も・・・・

【チンチラ編】オラフのおやつ / Olaf's snack

こんにちは❗オラフィーです❗
みなさんはチンチラの食事といえばチモシーヘイだとかアルファルファを思い浮かべると思いますが、「おやつ」といえば何を想像するでしょうか❓一般的にはひまわりの種やドライフルーツ等水分を含まないものがおやつとしては最適と言われています🐭🐭なぜなら、あまり多くの水分をあげてしまうと下痢をしてしまいます。デリケートなチンチラは下痢が命にかかわることがあるので、十分に注意をしなければいけません💦💦
オラフにもPetsmartで購入したおやつを最初はあげていましたが、①量が多い②とにかく甘そうなので、このままおやつをあげ続けていたらオラフもアメリカンサイズになってしまうのでは・・・という予感がしました。
以下がPetsmartで購入したおやつです。
そこで我が家ではおやつを自作しています。主にベースとなるのは人参とかぼちゃです❗料理でどうしても余ってしまう部分を乾燥させてあげています🐭🐭おやつの匂いがするとすごい勢いでケージの入り口のところへやってきてひたすらおねだりしてきます😉但し、あげ過ぎは禁物です。
色々な野菜を試してみて、オラフのお気に入りを見つけたいと思います❗

Sunflower seeds and dry fruits that do not contain a lot of moisture are the best as a snack🍦🍦Because they get diarrhea when they ingest a lot of moisture. Since the chinchilla is delicate, diarrhea may be life threatening, so we must be careful enough. 💦💦
At first I gave Olaf a snack purchased with Petsmart but stopped.The reason is (1) a lot of quantity (2) It seems to be so sweet. I had a horrible feeling that Olaf would become an American size if I kept giving a snack as it is😲😲
So we are making Olaf's snacks ourselves. The main snack is carrots and pumpkin ❗ It is drying the part which will inevitably be left out in the dish 🐭🐭When he smells a snack, he came to the entrance of the cage with a great momentum and just bothers me.
